The following Octopus design was created by Bethany McLean

Her clientele includes Cartoon Network, the Georgia Aquarium, Smirnoff, Q100, 11Alive, The Weather Channel, AMC, Bacardi, 99X, and many more. She continues hone her skills, staying on top of pop culture, makeup trends, and new products to keep providing her clients the highest level of service.

Step 1: Sponge your favorite blue/green or mermaid color rainbow cake on the eyes and across the bridge of the nose.

Step 2: Use a blue/green one stroke (Global Taupo pictured here) with a 3/4″ flat brush to make most of a circle for the head. Add two teardrop shaped strokes using a brush to either side of the head to make the eye ridges. Tilting the brush at an angle allows you to get a smaller width to make the legs. Remember to overlap them for more interest.

Step 3: Add white dots for the suction cups along the lighter side of the legs using a round brush, be careful not to cross over a leg that would be in front. Teardrops finish out the empty space and helps create the mask shape.

Step 4: Outline the body, eye ridges, and legs. Here I used Global dark blue. The top side of the legs is a straight line, and the bottom side of the legs is a scalloped line to give a more dimensional look. Also outline the teardrops to make them pop. I added lips to accent the design.

Step 5: Add the eyes. A white dot or two will give them a highlight. You can also use a face painting stencil to add additional bubbles and texture. Here I use Leah Selley’s graffiti eyes and white Starblend. Powders work great with stencils!
